Material Monsters
This half term, we have been studying ‘Material Monsters’ in Year 2, identifying and classifying materials into different groups. We then moved on to exploring the properties of each material.
Last week, we went on a material hunt around the school, identifying the various materials we could find in and around the building, and discussing the reasons why they had been chosen.

Keep Healthy
This half term, Year 2 has been learning about ways to keep our bodies and minds healthy. One of the ways to do this is by eating healthily. The children have been exploring various foods to make healthy salads with, and have been developing the skills needed to create these, such as slicing, grating and chopping.

May 2021
In Year 2 we have been learning about poverty, as part of PHSE. Children learnt about the difficulties people face when they don’t have enough money. They also found out about the work local charities do to help people. So we decided to do a collection for Luton Foodbank. They were very happy with the amount of food collected and said that this will be greatly appreciated by all the people from the community that use the foodbank.

Autumn 2020
In Art we have been exploring the work of Richard Long who was a famous sculpturer. Ash Class enjoyed using clay to reproduce a piece of his work. This involved making a circular sculpture with repeated patterns.
In Maths we have been learning about place value. Children in Cherry Class enjoyed using different resources to represent numbers to 100.They were also able to identify the number of tens and ones in a two digit number.
In English this term, we have been using the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Chestnut Class really enjoyed acting out parts of the story. Children will write their own stories based on this one.
In Oak’s science lesson this week, we went on a material hunt around the class and in the playground. We were looking at different types of materials and their properties.

Spring
In Geography we have been studying world explorers. We have looked at Ernest Shackleton and Ibn Battuta: where and when they travelled, what happened on their adventures and what they discovered. This has given us the opportunity to learn about the continents of the world.
In one lesson we had fun, using balloons, to create our own globes. As we drew the continents onto the balloons it enabled us to become more confident in placing the continents on our ‘globes’.
The Year 2 Christmas Performance.
The Year 2 children put on a spectacular performance for their parents. It was a journey around the world to discover how different cultures celebrate Christmas. It included some great acting, singing and dancing. The children loved it, the parents were thrilled by it and all the Staff were very proud of all the Year 2 children.

In Science, children in Year 2 enjoyed going on a learning walk around the school to see what different types of materials things were made from. They used scientific vocabulary to describe the properties of the different materials and then discussed why certain materials would be most suitable for specific things.
