Young Voices - O2 Arena

On 31st January, 21 children and 4 adults from Beechwood went to the O2 Arena in London to join with over 7000 other children and sing in the world’s largest children’s choir. They sang songs ranging from the bizarre – Oh the thinks you can think, to the popular – Pop Medley. They all represented the school fantastically and are very eager to repeat the event next year.

Neptune’s Class Assembly

On Thursday 26th September, Neptune class held the first class assembly of the year. It was lovely to see that some of the children’s parents were able to attend and find out about the School’s Link Project that Neptune and the other Year 5 classes will be working on all year.

Each child in the class was able to take part and share what their name was and what it meant. The children spoke with clear voices and were extremely proud to perform in front of their parents.

Thank you to the parents who were able to spare some time today and watch the assembly. And a big thank you to Neptune who did a fantastic job!

Our next parent assembly is Jupiter Class on Thursday 3rd October.  We look forward to seeing.

Beechwood Cross Country Team

Congratulations to the pupils who competed in the Luton Cross Country event at Lewsey Park in October. All athletes trained hard for the event and achieved some excellent finishing positions.

Below are some pictures showing just how hard the event was.

Pupils competed in a variety of races such as the 50m hurdles, various sprints and a distance race of 600m. Also in their PE lessons they have been learning to throw the Javelin, Hammer and Discus.

All the children had a fantastic day and were supported by the many parents who came to cheer them on.

World Sports Day

It’s the final, UK-wide Get Set event before the London 2012 Games begin.   Click on the link opposite and find out more about World Sports Day.

Luton Torch Relay

On Thursday 21st June Beechwood Primary School participated in the Luton School Torch Relay. Over 40 schools in Luton have welcomed the torch to their school and selected pupils to carry it to the next school. The torch will travel for 3 weeks before finishing at Bushmead Primary School on Friday 6th July. At Beechwood we received the torch from pupils from St Joseph’s Catholic School. In the playground the whole school welcomed the arrival of the torch and witnessed the passing of the torch. Our pupils then set off on the 1 mile run to Leagrave Primary School where they then passed the torch on once again. It was a fantastic afternoon and hopefully and experience the children will remember.

Zone Sports Athletics Event

On Monday 18th June, 40 pupils from Beechwood competed against 10 other local primary schools in the Zone Sports Atheltics Competion.  The pupils competed in sprint races, relays, a 600m distance race as well as a variety of field events.  All the children had an excellent afternoon and enjoyed the expereince.
